Cabinet nod for RM20m to repair Tamil
schools

SHAH ALAM: The government
has allocated RM20 million to build and repair national type Tamil schools.
Works Minister Datuk Seri
S. Samy Vellu said of the total, RM10.9 million would be used to replace 10
school buildings in Selangor.
He said Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Second
Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop had given the approval for the
allocation following the go ahead from the cabinet.
“The Public Works Department has investigated and identified 22 schools in
Selangor and 10 of them will be replaced with new buildings.
“The rest of the allocation will be used for Tamil-type schools in states
such as Kedah, Penang, Johor and Perak,” he said after launching the MIC
Youth election machinery here.
Samy Vellu also thanked Selangor
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo for approving RM1.2 million
for SJK(T) Seaport in Taman Medan.
On scrap metal business operators being linked to thefts, Samy Vellu, who is
also MIC president, said the police would only intervene when it involved
the sale of stolen items.
Meanwhile at the same event, Dr Khir said the issuance of licences for scrap
metal businesses had been relaxed to give more opportunities for members of
the Indian community to venture into the business. — Bernama
