MATRICULATION HOLDERS CANDIDATES’ APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Introduction The holders of the following degree foundation/matriculation
qualifications are accepted by BPKP, the centralised agency
for processing of recognised qualification holders for entry
into the public universities for the First Bachelor’s Degree
programmes. These applicants must also meet the admission
criteria of the respective universities applied to.

Matriculation
certificate of Ministry of Education (Matrikulasi KPM)
-
Program Asasi
Sains Universiti Malaysa (PASUM)
-
Asasi
Undang-undang UiTM (Asasi Undang-Undang KPTM)
All the 17 public
universities offer Bachelor’s Degree programmes for
Matriculation holders except for Universiti Islam Antarabangsa
Malaysia (UIAM). (Note: UIAM offers matriculation programmes for SPM holders
which prepare them to enter directly into the university’s year
one Bachelor’s degree programmes upon meeting the university’s
admission requirements.)
Generally there are 2 categories of Matriculation
candidates, i.e.
Bachelor’s degree
courses offered by public universities are grouped into Arts
Stream and Science Stream courses.

Minimum Admission
Requirements for Matriculation Qualification Holders

University’s Basic Condition

Pass SPM / or its
equivalent with good grade
-
Pass SPM / or its
equivalent with credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia
-
Pass Matrikulsasi
KPM/PASUM/Asasi Undang-Undang with CGPA above 2.0
-
Have sat for the
Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
2.2 Specific Conditions of IPTA’s Programmes Applicants (i.e. the holders of Matrikulsasi KPM/PASUM/Asasi
Undang-Undang) must meet all specific requirements of the
programmes chosen, which are stated in the e-guide for IPTA
admission (e-Panduan Kemasukan ke IPTA).

Categories & Choice
of Programmes

There are two types of
programme applications :
-
Programmes
under Category ‘P’ are meant for application from
candidates with ‘Matrikulasi
Perakaunan/Asasi/Undang-Undang (Arts)’ Accounting/Law
Foundation qualification
-
Programmes
under Category ‘N’ are for application from candidates
with ‘Matrikulasi Sains Hayat and Sains Fizikal
(Science)’ Science Stream (Biology/Physics) qualification
Applicants
interested in competitive programmes like Medicine,
Pharmacy, Dentistry and Allied Health Science must be
prepared to compete because the places are limited. The
cut-off point should be high.

The merit of applications
would be assessed based on PNGK (CGPA), co-curricular
activities, right combination of subjects and the
corresponding selected programme to be taken as well as
availability of seats offered by the public university,
which is similar to that of the STPM candidates.

Programmes of Study for Bumiputra
All programmes of study offered by UiTM are meant
for Bumiputra candidates only
-
Criteria of
Selection by BPKP Below are some other factors that would be considered in the
application:

Good academic
results in the matriculation programme examination (CGPA
-
The right
combination of STPM subjects that match the subject
requirements of the programme being applied for
-
Good subject grade
for purpose of specialisation
-
Fulfilment of the
specific conditions set by the respective university
-
Availability of
places/seats
-
Good grades in the
SPM examination
-
Achievement in
co-curricular activities
-
Have sat for
MUET/Good grade in the MUET
-
Passing the
interview (part of the entry requirements for some programmes such as Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Sports
Science, Physical Education, etc)
-
On-line Application
Applicants can apply through the Internet through the BPKP
website http://emoe.gov.my (please refer to their e-guide for
details on how to submit application forms online to their
websites.)
Purchase of Unique ID No.
Online application must be submitted with the
purchase of a Postal Order (RM15) and submitted to Bank Simpanan
Nasional (BSN). Applicants will have to pay 60sen to BSN as
service charge. Applicants must obtain a receipt from BSN which
should be issued to the applicant’s name and IC number.

Online-Application
Process There are two phases of application by Matriculation
qualification holders i.e. Phase I and Phase II. Applicants MUST
apply ONLINE through the BPKP specified websites i.e.
http://mohe.gov.my/
or http://emoe.gov.my/
Applicants need to use their IC numbers, their Unique ID numbers
and passwords to log onto the website to perform the task of
application or to access to the Application Form. (Please refer
to their e-guide for details on how to submit application forms
online to their websites)
6.1. Phase I Application Process
Under Phase I, all applications for 2006/2007
academic session need to submit their applications somewhere
between the end of November and the end of December of the
previous year, 2005.
Pointers to be noted for Phase I:

Applicants need to
enter the Unique ID Number which they have obtained from
Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) to access to the Application
Form section in the website for submission

Applicants can
print out the application details as proof of their
applications
-
Changes to the
application can only be made three times prior to the
closing date of application while vetting of application can
be made many times
-
Applicants need to
choose programmes that require interviews in the Phase I
application process
6.2. Phase II Application Process
Phase II is meant for making changes to application
submitted during Phase I. This can be done after the release of
examination result. Prior to the closing date, updates or
changes to the Application Form can be made three times only.
Pointers to be noted for Phase II:

Candidates must
use the same Unique ID Number obtained through Phase I

Applicants can
print out the changes to the application as proof of their
applications
-
Changes to the
application can only be made three times prior to the
closing date of application while vetting of application can
be made many times
-
The closing date
for application is 7 days after the announcement of
examination results, which is around the month of May.

Jabatan Pengurusan IPT will notify the successful students while
the offer letter will be issued by the university concerned.
